As diesel fuel prices edged north of $3.50 a gallon, trucking firms added fuel surcharges to their invoices to offset the rising costs of fuel. Con-way Freight plans to expand, add 55 jobs in Fond du Lac

Trucking firm Con-way Freight expects to add 55 jobs in Fond du Lac as it expands to a new, $8 million terminal, the company said Tuesday.

Con-way plans to build a 47,000-square-foot terminal and warehouse on 21 acres in the Fox Ridge Business Park, with construction beginning in June and completed by next March. The expanded operation is expected to employ 100 people. Con-way employs 45 at its current, much-smaller facility in Fond du Lac.

The new, 96-dock warehouse will allow Con-way to handle more than 1.6 million pounds of freight a day – nearly three times as much as the firm currently handles in Fond du Lac.

Demand is high for commercial truck drivers
